My bus has had a new rear quarter quite some time ago and on the leisure battery tray one third of it hasn't been welded back onto the new quarter panel,

I think I know the answer to this already but there's always hope.....when it's welded back onto the inside of the panel it's going to burn the paint on the outside isn't it? :( - not being a welder I was wondering if a seam round it rather than tack welding made any difference? - or if there are any tips on minimising the paint damage? (ice pack e.t.c. :D)

Cheers!

Larry

i have heard of some sort of putty type compound that draws the heat away to minimiz damage but to be honest i think you will get some damage to paint, i assume you are going to get someone else to do the welding as you say you are not a welder so why not try asking them.
Best of luck.

That putty is for preventing metal distortion.

The welding will burn the paint. The only paint friendly option would be to get some metal to metal bonding stuff. Not sure how well it would adhere because you'll struggle to get in and clean the surfaces properly.

Sounds promising - I may give this ago before taking the plunge and getting it welded, cheers for the advice :)

No worries. You'll just have to double check what product your buying.
Some of them won't cure unless they are airtight. You'll also find they are quite exspensive (but not as much as getting your rear quarter painted!)
And you might need to borrow a special corking gun as some of them come in a twin tube with a mixer nozzle.

If your struggling for a supplier ask a local small bodyshop who their supplier is.

Ive used some spray on 'cold' gel stuff from a plumbers merchant in the past with some success - spot welding the panel will alleviate damage, of course. If its og paint the damage will be minimal as well.
