can anyone give me their experiences with different canvas'. Basically the lowdown is i have bought a Wolfsburg West one and am trying to justify why i spent the extra coin when you can get them for 180 quid. Please help me and tell me cheap ones are crap

to be fair not impressed with the ww one, the front edge that goes to roof was far too long, i am suspicious of it not being a ww one as there was no tag saying wolfsburg west and my friends did, and did not come in a ww bag, has anyone else had the yellow one was their's the same

The WW ones are pretty good most of the time but I have come accross a few that are not 100%. I always fit mine from bottom to top in order to take up the slack leaving a neat line around the metal trim and keeping it tight.

i do not see how you can fit them bottom to top as you need to staple the top and then fold it back over to leave a neat line around the poptop and no visible staples as per the factory installation

I think they mean the front if you have a front hinged, but I did the staples first then the Ali word of advice get a prop bar to hold the roof up so it's not at full extension when doing the Ali it's a bugger when the canvass is skin tight

This is the compromise. If you want a tight fit and the rubber beading to sit on the Ali trim neatly then I do bottom to top and finish the top with plastic trim on the inside. The factory had the beading glued down and the fabric pulled through until tight. This doesn't work when the beading is sewn into the fabric. The fabric would have to be 100% perfect in size and all hinge parts in exactly the right place.

I've just bought a heritage roof canvas because the just Kampers one leaks worse than if it was made of bog roll.

Anyone had any experience of these before I have a go at fitting it. It was pricey but need a quality one - hopefully this is it.

Top tip - i removed my roof ( to paint etc) and found it pretty easy to fix the canvas to its upside down on the floor ;)

i bought a one off one for £320. I returned it straight away and got a full refund, without hassle. I covered the cost of the shipping 1 way. I then bought a second hand WW for £180. The difference was unreal, so so so much better quality.

putting the bottom edge on first is naff...you have to put the top edge on first and then fold over so the canvas covers the plastic strip and looks nice....the ones that have had the top put on last and stapled on, is just wrong...if you spend the time fitting the aluminum roof strips you should have no problem even with the hard to get corner screws...nothing is inpossible...it took me around 3 hours and mines perfect, and it was the first one i ever done....

I have fitted loads and fitting bottom up is much easier and you can get a much tighter fit. It looks more naff to have a baggy canvas with a neat inside edge. It can be fitted nicely from the top down as the factory would have done it but it relies on the fabric being the exact right size. The hinges and rear supports changed over the years and can make a 4" difference in length at the rear. How would you get the plastic trim to fit perfectly under the aluminium trim if you either have spare fabric or not enough. In the factory the plastic beading trim was not fitted to the fabric so the slack fabric could be pulled through and trimmed neatly.

I'm sure yours is perfect and there is no looseness in the fabric and no overly tight spots that will eventually pull the wood away from the fibreglass but because of the variations in hinges and fabrics mentioned it would be foolish to think that it is Naff to fit any other way just because you can see a bit of plastic trim.

ahh the joys of a westy canvas.i did mine early this week.think i ended up with a jk one.not sure why as i dont use them much.they do 2 at diff prices i bought the expensive one.
