I'm thinking of getting some dropped spindles for my bay. Has anyone fitted them? If so what do you think of them?

drop spindles are good but you really need an adjustable beam to go with them...Also tyres can give you an inch drop to..what year is your bus? :)

It's a Feb '68 matey.

I lowered my old '72 panel van by cutting and turning - yeah, it looked cool as hell but I want a more comfy ride now as this is going to be my "family" bus

What good shocks are available these days?

I fitted dropped spindles at the weekend.

The ride is excellent compared to just using adjusters, I'd recommend them, although you migh have a few tyre scrubbing issues if you go too low like I did.

how low are the adjusters set??

im going adjusters and spindles, was thinking of using 175/55/15s on gas burners up front, think they will be ok??

Adjusters are now set little less than half way. Tyre still scrub.

I'd go for 165/55/15s if I were you, mytyres.co.uk were selling them for about £34 each delivered.
175 might be ok as a lot of Porsche wheels have massive tuck, but I'm not 100% sure that's the case with Gas Burners.

Same size as I run upfront of my bus Gary, running the Burners, no trye scrub even after lowering it to the max (1 inch clearance wheel to tub), and i'm 4" narrow.

Ive got (or will have when its fitted! ) 4inch narrowed adjustable weedeater beam and droped a few splines on the back. Gets it as low as i want it anyway 8)

Sorry, didn't know we were talking about narrowed beams!

i havnt got a narrowed beam

just adjusters and dropped spindles

See...now I haven't got dropped spindles

Just saying the tyres should be fine.

I'll get my coat.

Ok, well, if you've not got a narrowed beam and are fitting dropped spindles, 175 tyres will scrub, judging by the way my 165s on stock wheels scrub occasionally.

8)

dropped wagenswest spindles, stock beam, stock 185s, no rubbin at all, excellent ride 8)

Have you got a pic of your bus mate? Is it only the dropped spindles your running?

cut and turn is ok but a little hit and miss and non reverable.....Personally I'd go Split beam...60mm narrower than a bay beam, more drop and get shot of Ball joints!!Being a 68 a 64- will bolt straight on too :)

So, you're saying that I could fit a Split beam and some dropped spindles from Cool Air which will lower it 3 1/2" as opposed to ball joint dropped spindles which only bring it down 2 1/2"............

you can get drop spindles for ball joint that are 3.5's.Fit a split beam...drop spindles andand bridgestone 165 50 15 and you could go as low as 9"! 8)
