Taking a pic of yours would be easier ;) or reading the part numbers off the side ;)

is this so you can buy a pertronix to fit? if it is then you should only need to check if you have the flying saucer shaped disc stuck on the front of the dizzy (which means its a vacuum advance dizzy) otherwise its almost certainly going to be an 009.

Pic here shows a stock vacuum dizzy for a 72:

There are several different models of the SVDA dissy, the are largely interchangeable. Get the part numbers off the side of the dissy and get it's exact specification here...

http://www.oldvolkshome.com/ignition.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That page will give you the exact timing settings for your dissy and yes Pertronix is available for a SVDA. Pertronix is all well and good, just don't be tempted by their coil and leads set, they are utter rubbish. You want the post '71 one, SVDA dissys were generally fitted to post '71 aircooleds, they came in at the same time as twinport heads.

Don't ever be tempted by an 009, they are utter pants. When I replaced my 009 on a pair of Dell'orto 34s, I gained 4 mpg, more power and a smoother running van.

I was about to order a set of Pertronix HT leads and Flamethrower coil to match my ignition.

Why do you reckon they are no good ?.

What do reckon are the best HT leads and coil to match a Pertronix ignition (in SVDA) ?.

Thanks

Taylor HT leads have served me well - used to be able to get them cheap off some of the guys on Volkszone - dont think they are selling anymore tho :cry:

Pertronix coils appear to be well known for breaking due to vibration - if you do get one the epoxy filled offroad version is the preferred type rather than the oil filled.
I gather suitable coils can be found at the scrap yard for peanuts & they are alleged to provide good service....
