Hi, whilst tearing down my engine I noticed that my dizzy is way out of shape.
I'd like some info on how to make it better myself, possible adding electronic ignition to get rid of points and 60's tech.
I ordered an EMPI dizzy with 009 advance curve and elec. ignition, but I heard it's rubbish so I'll bee putting it on ebay as soon as I get it

I'd like a smooth running 1600 DP so tell me what to do...

I'd just clean up your old dissy and fit a new condensor, points and lubricate it. Yeah, EMPI 009s are *****.

I see thay also do mallory unilite, if you can afford it get one, everyone ive talked to with these says they're bulletproof.

How about this:

I Don't feel like tinkering with electrical things, especially cause I don't
know anything electrical. Bodywork, mechanical - OK, but no electrics

Points are a mechanical device, dead easy to setup. There is no point spending $149 on parts you don't need. All you need is a £8 points and condenser set. If you do want electronic ignition, why not fit a Pertronix kit to your existing dissy. Genuine VW Dissy's are the best quality and the best thing for you engine.

A good stock dizzy with a pertronix kit is the best option on a basic engine, Id say.
