Well I got to say I love em all but im rather fond of the crossover, its the first model to lose the split screen rear corners and become a new van in its own right,( almost) it also came with the type 4 engine options, servo etc making it a more user friendly vehicle IMHP.
Best of all it retained all the early features that make these vans a better looking vehicle than its later version.
Bit unfair when people dismiss the crossover as having a late rear end especially when it came first.

I've got servo assisted brakes on my USA 71 Westy (built April 15th '71) Was this an option thing or a USA or Westy feature? I ran it without the servo connected for a while (didn't have the vacuum outlet on the weber manifold, now sorted),then connected the servo up properly and it is a big improvement.

Nope a '70 coz the more i delve into it the more i find its like a '68 a real one year pain in the Ar$e and i love it...

Master cylinder...........1 year only due to ball size 22.5mm (69-july 70)
Front Centre Chassis out rigger normally 26".. 1970 24.5" between chassis legs..

Wiring, 8 way connector, According to all vw diagrams for USA spec buses fly lead from 8 way plug to hazzard switch Black/red... nope both mine and Wills(Tintintin) had yellow..

there will be more i am sure

I'm with Stongy on this - Jan 68 - although actually thats when mine was registered over here - I think the build date is Dec 67, so I'll go with that, 'cos its quite cool that its soooo early!

However, that is purely because thats what I have! Never had another year, but it almost sounds as if there are a few years (around the crossover time?) that have the best of all worlds, and the most options for spec, in terms of discs, lights, etc etc....
