Hi All,

Hopefully DVLA currently processing the paperwork to register our US import bay. In the meantime I thought I'd check out reg plate styles / suppliers so we can get them ordered once we have the reg and hopefully collect our bus early Nov from the garage :D

We know it's old enough for the black/white plates and we defo want these. A friend mentioned we could go for a US import plate too? In terms of normal GB style black/white do people normall have the square style at the rear and normal size at the front?

Suggestions on where to get these from too would be great!

p.s. would put a picture of my van up but still struggling to attach one from my pc (

Cheers
Craig

Most run a square rear and normal front plates.

There are loads of places you can buy these (Halfrauds don't, but a proper motor factors should be able to help you).

US style plates are an interesting one. Technically I don't think they are legal in the UK but there is a large amount of folk running them quite happily (with the very occasional story of a wrapped knuckle). I believe States Plates are the favoured supplier of these.

Picked up a pair of UK black/white ones on eBay for £18. Came damaged and sent me another set.

The only motor factors I tried wanted something crazy like £70.

How much are people paying for them from Framptons? They don't seem to have pricing on their site.

Found a link in a thread on this forum from about a week ago with a link to an ebay seller that seems to have good reviews and about £21 a pair.

Designaplate - front long, rear square...

Framptons have lots of different plates some of which are VERY expensive , but my one was very well priced

Finally the bus is now registered and I've ordered some plates. Next question that's just sprung to mind.... How are people attaching the metal plates? Modern acrylic plates I've just attached with sticky pads or the self tappers in the past to my cars.

Cheers for any tips!

Resurrecting an old post I know...

Called Framptons today. I want raised white plastic digits on a black background. Cost was £15 for an oblong one and £18 for a square one. (Or maybe the other way round, but doesn't matter as I'm having a pair). Plus VAT, but postage included, so total about £40 for the pair. Will order some tomorrow when I have my docs with me!

Just for being nosey.... how long did it take for the registration take to go through? My import gets MOT'd on the 16th of feb....I want to know how long I have to contain myself for! :D

Ordered on the Wednesday afternoon, arrived Saturday morning...

You could get some perspex ones over the counter at your local car spares shop if you're desperate though!!

Registration takes on average 7-10 working days as long as you have all the paperwork ready, NOVA Letter, Insurance, MOT, US Title or Birth Certificate, filled out V55/5....

Sorry, my bad - I mis-interpreted that as "how long do the registration PLATES take" to come through!

Graham is right in what he says based on my experience with another car ages ago, mine was more than a week...
