NICE !! :mrgreen: Can I ask, why the j tubes and not the heater ones ???
Obviously a simple answer, but I know nowhere near as much as you going by that "BEAUTIFULL" looking setup.
I personally never wanted a larger engine, more ponies etc etc. But that there is a work of art, I don`t know if I had something like that whether I would want to put it under my bus and let it get dirty ! You have got me thinking now and that is not usually a very good thing :lol:

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,, just a TINY bit jealous !! 8) ;) 8)

I have a 1700 type 1 (stock B&ps with a 74mm crank), just replaced my bugpack merged header with a stock beetle exhaust & taper tips, hoping that will give me a bit more breathing over the stock bus exhaust but much better clearance. Will try to post pics later.

I run a Pertronix dizzy with ignitor 2 module, coupled with a Second Strike ignition box.

http://www.pertronix.com/prod/new/details.aspx?id=110" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The dizzy allow to make a custom advance curve, while the ignition box put a second strike on all the RPM range, boost the ignition power, and act as a rev-limiter.

Cheers for all the replies, he pictures of the vintage speed ones are really useful, i suspect that is what i will go for as the seem to offer the same clearance as a stock exhaust

Personnaly, I don't think that the VintageSpeed exhaust is a performance exhaust. Not a real 4/1 header, no equl lenght on the tubes, 4 tubes entering in a big box... Ans sounds like an old moped :D (I've a friend that has one on his split bus)

hmm sounding like an old moped is not what we want at all, what colour is your tinware kombiporsche it looks awesome

I am now running a 1776 but am no where near as low as you pete. Im only 1 spline at the rear so cant give any advise on clearence issue's.

However the 1776 is a huge difference over a stock 1600sp. With a remote cooler and remote filter also helps. I only have small twin 34 webbers but these help loads with the torque up hills. Top speed is no difference really as very limited with the gearbox.

I have a bugpack 4 into 1 header and a mondo back box which will be no good for your lowered bus. Its a bit shit to be honest and not a huge fan of the noise so will be looking to replace this at some point this year.

My friend has a beetle mondo back box and has cut and re-welded it so it sits a lot higher this works well.

The real sound is very mettalic like aftermarket ewhausts on 2 strokes engines. I ad the fact that the baffles are spot welded in the muffler ( The tiny spots that you can see on the muffler ) and they are prone to fall with heat and vibrations and after that, you have a poor "gling gling" sound ( seen three exhaut with this problem)

Concerning my tins paint, it's an hammered grey.

It seems to be holding up pretty well considering it's EMPI. The 1776 is waaay better than the 1600 was
Anyone know if these pipes are available in the UK - am after a cheap high clearance exhaust
