Now I like to think I keep on top of the game as far as maintenance is concerned, but there is one thing (well, at least 2 really) I had missed. For a while now there has been a little squeek when on poor road surfaces, kept thinking it was the crusty old door seal or something such. Early today there was a light 'ping' as if a stone hit from a passing car. Checking the oil a bit later (see, I do try!) noticed a bit of bugee cord hanging by its hook from the rain gutter. Said bugee, one of those spider things from a well known supplier, had just crumbled into nothing and the only thing holding the spare wheel on the roof rack was gravity. Fitted a proper webbing hold down strap and upon tightening found the whole roof rack was loose on every joint and all the fixings onto the van itself. Needles to say, now everything has been tightened up the squeek has gone as well. Just thought I'd mention it. I mean, you wouldn't want to slam the brakes on and see your 'rack complete with all its cargo, go hurtling forward and land on the little old lady you had just tried so hard to avoid running over. Worth a check...
