Looking for a working 2/H 38A (173mm long casing) dynamo, to get me on the road to Bug Jam - anyone help?

Money waiting to fire across (and a beer or two at the next show) or swap/adjust for an incorrectly sourced (on my part) 30A version.

Schoolboy errors abound...

Thanks,

Jim

A bit of info that might help you

38 amp dynamos are clearly marked on top. The important bit is the backing plate that fixes to the fan housing - it is flat for the 30 amp dynamo and dished inwards by around 11mm on the 38 amp. This ensures that the drive pulley on the bigger dynamo lines up with the crank pulley. I've lost count of the number of dynamos I've seen recently that have the wrong backing plate - effectively destroying belts and pulleys

Glen's dynamo looks like it's running the correct plate.

BTW - it's easy to test a dynamo. Just run a wire from the DF terminal to the earth screw, then connect a battery positive lead to the D+ and the negative to the DF. If it's OK the dynamo will run as a motor and also polarise itself.

Slug/Glen,

I think (think!) I've got one sorted but thanks very much for the shout - greatly appreciated.

BJ - also thanks for the advice. I'll be swapping over the fan bits from my existing, as the need for a new one arises from a cheap, rubbish pulley trashing the woodruff key slot. The rest of it is fine - very annoying! But I'll be sure to test the new one before putting it all back together and then realising it needed doing!

Thanks both for your help,

Jim
