I've been looking for insurance for mine for the last few days, its looking about £1200 fully comp with any one who is underwritten by Herts. No other company appears to insure under 21's on campers; tried Lancaster, Carole Nash, Footman James, 2gether and cherished etc. I have also tried some of the usuals, Hastings, Direct line and Admiral.

Only Flux's, JK and VWHeritage will give me a quote. Have tried RH but am still waiting for an email.

Hi,

Just renewed mine with Cherished, about £160 inc breakdown cover and euro, and 18K agreed value, as it's under 20K doesn't have to be garaged aparently......comes with a free DNA+ microdot security kit....

Got off the phone with Cherished "Sorry sir the underwriter says we can't help you because you walk to work,
and if it's raining you may get in the van to drive the 1 mile ."

Needless to say that was the end of that conversation. I live a mile from work and my wife uses the car to go to her work,
and drives past my place of work if needed. Fuming to say the least, try to do your bit for the planet only to be
penalised for it. Anyway rant over I phoned Volksworld and got everything I needed with agreed sum for £140.00.

Ok for the first year and we haven't even got the van home yet.
Feeling better now Thank you.

I just had similar conversation with Cherished too. Had a laid up policy with them for 4 years or so now, but now I want to MOT the van next week they said that because I use a pool car at work and don't have my own other car, they wouldn't insure the van fully comp! Similar reason if the pool car's being used, I may be tempted to use the van.

Think Cherished are OK, but only if you're doing sub 5K a year, no commuting and the van is your second car.

I'm off to phone RH to see what they have to say.

Im going to try RH for a quote, says on their website "must be kept in locked garage" - would on a drive behind locked gates qualify ? Does anyone know?

On agreed value do people normally get the agreed value certificate through? Or do you just go off what the insurance company puts into the policy?

They are the best Insurance company I have ever come across,

Rang them today and they refused to quote me because it wasn't stored in either a garage or a driveway. Tried to explain that a secure car park is safer than a driveway where any idiot can walk in, but computer said no

Check the small print in your agreed values, RH will only agree the value if it is in a locked garage. Don't try an use your vehicle like a vehicle with RH! Out of sight and locked away, yes we will take your money in that case.

I got an agreed valuation from Clem on here - the insurance company (RH) recognized this and added the amount in writing to my policy document - no issues although it is kept in a locked secured and camerad garage

Yep - on drive is ok, quoted me £141 for ageed value and breakdown including homestart and europe :D

I came to the conclusion some time ago that trying to make any sense of the bus insurance market is a waste of my time and effort.

So each year Clem does me a valuation (cheers Clem :D ) and I do the rounds of five or so insurers (the usual suspects plus the odd outsider) and have even found that the same underwriters offer gross price differences. As a result I have changed insurer every year so far. Currently with Cherished.

It's f*****g bonkers. :(
