We had a ride out to Goathland village of Heartbeat & Hogwarts fame, in the North Yorks Moors on Saturday. It was unusually quiet with the weather not as nice as promised but better for keeping the dog cool. Lovely open moorland & quite smooth country lanes to drive along.

We used to visit here loads back when our '63 beetle was our daily driver 25+yrs ago. The climbs were a bit slower this time around. I messed up 3rd>2nd gear on the Birk Brow climb which is a steep sharp winding dual carriageway up onto the Moors northern edge, so had to stop & pull away in 1st, then 2nd appeared without a problem.

I've got to crack on with that linkage. I keep putting off 'til winter as i now mostly have the knack of finding 2nd, but sometimes it beats me.

"EarlyBay" sticker now in the window, & roofrack removed, so i can get this (squeezed) in our garage at home, instead of being stored miles away, which was a PITA.

Sweet looking bus 🌈👍

Thanks fella,
A few changes i'd like to make as i go along; proper 68-71 rear bumper with splash trays, Possibly WW full deluxe window rubbers with the aluminium inserts. Rear vent windows in long side & slider. It did have those fitted pre resto so i feel it should get its microbus identity back a bit by reinstating them.
Also been fancying one of those Aircooled Accessories 356 steering wheels, in honour of its reg number, but so expensive.

Our front plate was riveted onto the bumper & started rattling in certain windy conditions so took it off. Needs the bumper off to make some clearance behind the irons to get room for refitting it with nuts.
Bonus was when i got free parking at a local forest, their ANPR cameras couldn't read me coming in when i checked at the payment machine, & i drove out with the decklid open so they didn't get my rear plate going out.

Feel your pain, I live in Guisborough, never attempted Birkbrow in my Westy, Id rather take the cut through :) PM me next time your up this way, be great to see your Bus.

Hi, I reckon that must be Lee from Guisborough?

I was talking with Mark Robinson last week about your ‘71 Westy. Saw your advert and the wilwood discs you’ve put on it which I am saving up to do to ours. I recognised its reg number from some older FB posts by retro revivals.

It’d be good if we get a chance to get the buses together. We were actually just in your area today, tried to get to Staithes but A174 was closed so we did a u-turn & had a curry in the bus at Saltburn overlooking the sea.

Yeh that’s me mate!

Luckily I’ve seen the light and will be keeping mine for a lot longer now, went to dubs int dales last weekend and bonded with it!

Ahh lovely, I assume you didn’t go down the bank 🤣
Give me a message next time your over this way mate

We came out of the detour at scaling dam, turned right along the moors & did go down the bank at birk brow, always nervous on those bends.
Got to Saltburn after getting lost a bit and rear drums were good to fry an egg on. Need to look into that. It’s ok on a flat run, but gets v hot on hilly routes sometimes. Fronts always run cool.

Glad you plan to keep yours. You’d miss it if it went. It’s looking so good in that advert.

I took a half day hol from my work yesterday to walk our boxer along the local beach, otherwise he was going to be left home alone for longer than we like.

It was forecast dry, calm & bright for November so got the van out for a treat. After our walk i had soup with a cuppa looking out to sea, making the most of a nice trip out. Its great having one of these old VWs for moments such as this.
Hot soup steamed up my lense a bit.

Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong when I post a photo? I attach a file but it can only be seen by clicking a link. User error no doubt. Possibly the files are too large? Many thanks! (Here’s an example)

I'm using a Macbook, so it's different (easier) than on another OS.
Click the attach files button below, and then go to my photos folder and select the image.
Press upload and then insert either thumbnail or full image.
