Well a week turned into a quite a few! But hey he's now completed, passed MOT this morning, just a clean and polish required. So a bump up to the top as I'm quite keen to sell now. Would possibly take an old beetle in PX.

    My 1969 Devon - the EarlyBay.com inspiration!

I know, a real shame after all that hard work, but needs must!

For those that have enquired he will be unavailable for viewing for a week or so as he has gone in to get the roofcap fitted. I'll post up pictures of the roof when completed.

    My 1969 Devon - the EarlyBay.com inspiration!

Due to a new business venture, I'm considering selling him - this will break my heart after all the hard work and enjoyment he has given the family.

My wife and daughter will probably kill me, but I have other plans which need funding, so with a heavy heart I am advertising my Bay. I have spent a lot of money and time creating a lovely useable classic Bay. Please see my build thread for all the work that has been done...

    Grill-n-Chill 2014

Went this year, overall a good weekend but would be nice to have some control of people playing music late. Not being an old fart - the music near us was playing till 5am+ at stupidly loud levels! Certainly didn't "chill" me!

Is it just money that you need, Or a partner to help with the business? What would you say a minimum stake would be?

    Low compression

Not touched the valves, will peruse it next weekend now - might swap the heads over and check compression again.

    Dash board light

It's a good few years ago I did them, but used something along the lines of these: http://www.maplin.co.uk/12vdc-led-strip-218015" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; They can be cut into short strips, wires soldered on and then stuck on the back of the dash. I'm sure I got the idea...

    Low compression

Just picked up a 1600TP engine for a cheap project, almost a full turnkey for £150 :-) The previous owner I know very well and is very mechanical said it had zero compression on cylinder 3 so he swapped it for a freshly built engine he had. Today I stripped the head and barrels off the engine...

    Dash board light

Upgraded mine a few years ago to blue led's - used the strip ones - worked a treat and work with the dimmer too :)

    Engine number?

I have been asked by my insurance company for the engine number as I installed a new engine a few years ago. Previous insurer never asked. The new engine doesn't have a number stamped on it, as far as I'm aware, nor is one listed on the V5 Anyone else come across this, if so how odd you deal...

    Tattoos anyone?

Had this done back in May, took 3 sittings, 16hrs in total.

    Restoring wood

Spent a lot of time doing my '69 Devon (pics in my gallery) had to replace a few panels too as the veneer had delaminated. Most of the wood scrubbed up pretty good, just time and effort with sanding and varnishing. Have fun :)

    Cheers vintagedan

They look lovely all boxed up, a work of art, almost too good to use!

What are the most common reasons to fail the mot?

Always been brakes for me, drums all round and a van that sits for weeks on end over the winter and then an MOT in March - not good. Not that the van has failed one yet, but always been advised to get them checked and adjusted, which a duly do.
