Just picked up a 1600TP engine for a cheap project, almost a full turnkey for £150 :) The previous owner I know very well and is very mechanical said it had zero compression on cylinder 3 so he swapped it for a freshly built engine he had.

Today I stripped the head and barrels off the engine but couldn't see anything obvious on cyl3, although when turning it over by hand without the heads on I could see cly3 seems to be letting a lot of oil by. I was expecting to see the piston rings shot but they looked ok. Could they just be worn? Anything else worth looking at? Cheers :)

need to make sure the rings are not in line where the gap is otherwise that will let oil by. Also the gaps should be at the top part of the barrels!

If your rockers are set wrong or valves are not seating then this could also cause low compression!
