I'll have a look at the original paperwork when I get home but sure there's something in there about roof racks from dormobile, not sure I've seen any exactly the same but have seen a few like the rear. I'm guessing the front wasn't that popular as it isn't very big, it is definitely made to fit...

A beetle exhaust it twin exit and no lower than stock, also flows a bit better apparently. Can get a variety to tips too if you want it to sound a little more sporty.

IIRC there are washers on both sides, not sure if ever be able to move to the lower settings original roof canvas is tight enough on the current setting :)

DVLA says it's a 73 model year so a late. There's lots of 72s on "L" plates too though. You can contact DVLA and request details regarding vehicles if you can prove a good reason, maybe being a previous owner would meet their criteria?

Can't just drill a slightly lower hole in the struts, so it doesn't open quite as much?

I'd say yes it is worth having, mine has the totally original heating system and it works well once the engine has warmed up. However it probably depends on how little/much of the system you actually have already, if you need heat exchangers and all the pipe work & controls then it might work...

Were you in the garage? Could it just be the exhaust gases getting into the vents, through the fan housing, through the exchangers and then out through the walkthrough vent??

Got a feeling that the lock body has grooves in it to allow it to lock which the non locker doesn't have, but should be easy enough to disassemble and check.
