Group buy- Delrin bush for shift rod

The front bush for the gear shift rod is very important for good gear selection. The ones available from the usual suppliers are pretty poor. However a company in the USA have made some high quality bushes from a plastic called Delrin. This is an engineering plastic. Link to company product...

    Delrin shift rod bush

A company in the USA called Aircooled vintage works makes a nice front bush for the gear shift rod. I saw this on instagram but unfortunately the shipping is £24 in addition to the cost of £33, which is quite a lot altogether! I think they are also on YouTube. Has anyone else seen these?

    Starter Motor

Well I got the starter motor out this morning. The hardest bit is undoing the nut in the engine bay behind the fan shroud. I don't know how I got my arms in there! The other end is the D shaped bolt head, so it is not too bad once the nut is cracked. I got a bit of a surprise when I had got...

    How does this fit?

I just bought one of these, a sliding door curtain protector. Not sure how it fits- anyone fitted one of these?

    CV joint- is this bad?

Whilst checking under the van found a CV boot split, on the left side near the wheel. This is the opposite to the right side that split 18 months ago! I got them as complete driveshafts with both CV joints and boots fitted. It says on A.Schofields site that they change the boots for better ones...

    Carb air filters

I’ve had my twin carbs for over three years now. Weber ICT’s - it’s occurred to me that they must be a bit dusty after all this time. Am I supposed to clean the filters or replace them? How to clean them, with a vacuum or wash them?

    CSP bell crank linkage

The other day I was driving along and all of a sudden there was a loss of power and the throttle pedal felt lighter. I discovered that the r/h/s/ carb linkage had come off its ball joint leading to no throttle on cylinders 1 and 2. There is now a pin to secure the ball joint on this side, but...

    Pop top lining

Does anyone line their plastic pop top with anything? I have a Westy pop top which has always just been white plastic un-lined on the inside. Most of the time it’s fine, but occasionally on colder morning there is condensation on the poptop roof inside. I’m not even sure if that’s how they...

    Alternator pulley

Been on a run out today about 60 miles or so. I thought the engine sounded a bit noisy so when I got home had a look and found the belt was loose, although hadn’t noticed the light come on so it wasn’t that loose. Removed the pulley wheel to investigate and I found that the inside half was...

    CV joints

Got two nasty surprises today from the bus! First was a split CV boot on the right hand (wheel) side, after only 6000 miles. Luckily it looks like I caught it early. Second was when I removed the driveshaft from the transmission side the grease in the CV joint and boot appears to have turned...

    Mud flaps

So I have bought the Buttys Bits ‘no drilling’ brackets for my VW mud flaps. I have a question for anyone that has put them on. I assume I have to bolt them to the engine mount bracket where the moustache bar goes. If I undo the nut and bolt will the engine need supporting ? [emoji848] Sent...

    mud flaps

I'm thinking of adding some rear mud flaps to protect the external oil filter and rear quarter panels. Is it worth doing?? :?:

Fitting convex glass into door mirror

How I put convex glass into my cab door mirror. I tried to tighten up my loose passenger door mirror recently, by tightening the bottom cap nut and unfortunately snapped off the post. So I bought a new cab door mirror from A. Schofields as they say it is top quality and has longer thread than...

    Wheeler Dealers

Anyone else addicted to WD? [emoji23] It always brings a smile to my face at 6pm. I prefer the Mike and Edd double act, but Ant Antstead is ok he could do the show on his own though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    Flange coupler lock plate

I’ve got my steering box off for a refurb at the moment. When I removed the flange coupler bolt from the worm shaft there is a piece of metal that bends over the bolt head and the nut on the other side to lock it in place. Looking at the usual suppliers I can’t find anyone that sells new ones...

    What are these called?

Does anyone know what they are called? I’ve searched for cup washers but can’t find anything with the same tabs on the bottom. I’m just doing a bit of work on the Westy roof rack that’s where they are from. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    Alternator face plate -gap?

I have taken off the cover plate off the alternator and have put it back on ok but I noticed a gap which I don’t know if it should be there or not. Any one can verify this is ok [emoji108] You can see it best where one of the three screws attaches it to the main body of the alt. Sent from...

    Wiring loom tabs

Another of my fold over metal wire grips broke today [emoji31] They are the ones in the engine bay for holding down the wires at the sides. One or two have broken off under the van as well, these ones hold the fuel line. I suppose I could use p clips underneath but they would maybe look a bit...

    Powdercoat wheels

I was looking at my wheels and thinking that they are not actually that bad and maybe just need a paint touch up on chips in the powdercoat. Having taken them off the bus I realise that they are not powdercoated on the inside ? Is this normal, or was this just a bit of cost saving by PO. Don’t...
