Very slow progress on this . . .the airride setup is 99,9% completed. Had a leak on one of the fittings and on top of one airshock. Solved the leaks and fitted the wheelcover. The pressure switch is a little to big, so the cover doesn't close for 100%. Last thing to do: place the pressure switch on another place (external with a hose to the tank) and make a 'kill switch' to shut off the power. Cable is already there, only have to instal the switch in the ashtray.

Sprayed the batterytray today. Not a nice paintjob but much better than the 'Taiwan black' I guess.

Almost finished the brakes. Fitted new brakehoses at the front and rear. Also the handbrake works again. I've only have to fit the Porsche 944 master brakecilinder.... Maybe next week?

And made a little start on the electricity. Need to sort out everything.

Looking good Peet, but why  no new brake lines? (the copper ones)
Complete new overhauled brakes and then some old ****-ty oversprayed and maybe clogged hardlines :|

Hi Wizzard!

The old copper lines shows no dents etc. but maybe your right. A new set of copper lines aren't that expensive.
Made already such an amount of extra costs (on the engine for example) that I will take this 'clogged' risk. I also have the guarantee there's some work left for winter 2014 ;-)

Grts Lefty

Also one little extra update . . .

The engine that's made for Lefty (1835cc) is build over a long time. It contains parts of the old engine and some new parts. Because of the history of the engine (and builder) I've decided to check the engine by a friend and specialist (http://www.fastoldies.nl). He found several minor things that has to be solved. Damn . . .
One of the things was the engine bracket (mustache bar), it was only mounted with 2 bolts. The third hole was not used because the oil pump line wouldn't fit. So a few weeks ago I've bought a new engine bracket, the same as Mycha bought for his Westy. It's an '71 model. With some little adjustment it fits perfect!

Also some damaged push rods . . . they will be replaced by new ones.

Now let's shim it :)

FastOldie also make some adjustments on the engine platework and painted it again. Take a notice to the cars in the back  8)

Coming on nicely :D

Does the new engine support bar use the 3 bolts again?

Really amazing bus and great pics :D

Are you going to install flaps in the fanhouse, cause i've got same model now,
and wondering if it will be neccesary for perfect cooling ???

Thnx for the compliments!
Will drive this fanhouse first, without modifications. I've found an original fan house with the flaps in it(1600, dual port), only need some good metal work to complete it.

Some new pics . . . started to sorting out the electricity. The lights and whipers are working now, only the front indicators need a upgrade. One of them had played an aquarium ;)
The rear light units where American, but I've converted to European style unit (with full red lens). Last thing to do is repair the indicator switch because one of the cables is broken. also need to check the brake lights.

Also removed the old master brake cylinder. Someone gave me a Porsche brake cilinder, but finally the reservoir doesn't fit. So ordered a new (original) one which will be installed next week.

Then the front shift rod was painted black and placed a new guide bush. The rear shift rod was pulled out so I can clean it. Replace both bushes by new ones and installed everything again. Also replaces the rubbers. Another little project done :D

Next thing on the list (after brake lights, indicators en master brake cylinder): mounting the new gearbox and engine! Today I've received a picture of the 1835 . . . it's ready for installing. Next week first testing it with the gearbox out of the bus. When everything looks and sounds oke we gonna instal it . . . can't wait 8)

Very slow progress, but 'project Lefty' still going on and on. Had a serious job by repairing the indicator switch. There were some broken connections which are all fixed now.
Next steps:

• Decompressing the brake system
• Testing the engine (next week!)
• Mount gearbox and engine!
• Replacing some parts for MOT, like the window whipers etc.
• . . . .

After that I have to test everything and getting it ready for MOT.

Can't wait to get it on the road. After 2 years of building I want to drive it, so Ninove is the deadline ;-)
The project Lefty isn't complete yet, but the moneybag is almost empty . . . so after the summer I'll be starting on the body and interior.

No post without a picture

Yesterday made some nice progress on Lefty! We've decompressed the brakes, so stopping isn't a problem. Also tested the engine . . . it runs! After a long time and a lot of money it's very nice to hear it run smoothly. I can't stop smiling

When the seals and engine mounts are delivered and installed, the engine will placed into Lefty. The plan is to buy the mounts and a complete package of seals for a Deluxe Earlybay at Custom & Commercial. Hope I'll receive a nice price from C&C ;-)

Have a nice weekend!
