Excellent work, looking forward to seeing it slammed.

Thanks! :) I can't wait for the slam job! ;) But first I had to clean the underside of the bus.
Have a nice weekend!

Evening guys!
Last week I did some small jobs on the westy. First thing was to rebuild the original 34PICT3 solex carburator with some new seals. the seals came from CSP and fits really good!

Next job was to build up a tent around the bus. So I can clean, sandblast and paint the underside without having all dirt in my garage.
Start with some plastic foil and wood slats

And came out like this...

The sandblaster I borrow from a friend. Thanks Peter!

The rear backplates had some rust witch I cut out and replace with some fresh sheet metal.
First with rust hole on each side...

Nice work on the arches (dreading doing mine as I know I will find more rust!)

Powder coated stuff looks nice to :D

Hi guys!
I got a lot of parts back from zincing. The mounting will make much more fun without all that dirt on it! ;)
Shiny! :) :)

Then it was time to start with sandblasting the underside of the bus. First I was a bit in worry to do this in my garage. But it all works well! I spend around 200.00CHF for all material and a lot of time for preparing. If I led do this work from a professional guy, I had to pay around 2000.00CHF. So I can save a lot of money! :D :D
And it shows me one more time; If you want you can do everything! ;)

Some pics from the blasting...

I spend two saturdays for sandblasting around the half of the bus. So 2 more days and I'm done!
Have a nice evening guys!

Thanks! :D Without the help from some good friends and my parents, I couldn't do that! I saw the build thread from your panel. You have a really nice bus! Especially I like your wheels choice! Looks just perfect! :) I think your bus would be far too good to sandblast the underside!
Tomorrow the sandblasting will continue! ;)
Cheers

Saturday is sandblasting day!
I've started with this:

Thanks! :) For sure I will paint the underside in Sierra yellow! ;) But for the moment I don't know exactly how I should start. 2K Primer, stone chip and then the final paint? What is with all this small areas which you could not paint with a paint gun? What are your experience? Thanks for your help!

Last time I painted underneath on of my buses was my late bay, back in 2007.
From memory I think I repaired the neccassary areas, seam sealered round the patches/ panels primed those bits, scraped off all the old underseal , cleaned the oginal paint up , keyed it a bit then blasted everything with over paintable stone chip then 2 k paint.
I still waxoyl'd all the nooks & crannys ( hard to reach) bits too though!!
It's a bugger to keep clean under there mind!!
Hence my last 2 buses just got black Schultz'd

Guys I'm done with sandblasting! :party0047: :party0048: :party0049: :beerchug:
As you could imagine, I'm really happy about this progress! After around 4 hours cleaning the dirt was gone!
Then it was time for some primer. I began with Brunox. It's a rust converter in combination with epoxy primer. I gave two coats of Brunox. Works really well!

Next step, 2k primer!

I'm HAPPY with the result! :D :D
Next week I've holiday. I hope I can do some good progress on the bus!

Thanks guys! :D Yes, I will seam sealer all the joints. But first I had to do some other work, like welding the heater tube in and other stuff.
