Had the same thing happen on the way back from Bug Jam about 8 years ago. Was doing 60 on a dual c/way at the time. Very scary! Took my insurance company (Adrian Flux, never again) 6 hours to get the screen fixed on the side of the road.

Didn't even think to ring insurance company, just used my break down cover.

As far I know it wasn't a stone, there was nothing in front of me. It just suddenly went with a bang! The hole appeared when I finally stopped and got out.

Scary! Had the same happen on my fastback some years ago whilst doing "about" 70 overtaking on the motorway, not nice. Replacement screen was a laminate one thankfully. Fortunately my van screen is a laminate one too as if not I reckon it would have gone the other week in the same way, instead, I just have a nice large chip on the curve which I am going to have to get fixed now.
