I seem to be having a photobucket issue, grrrrr

I was hoping to upload a photo of the carb and air cleaner as Im not sure which vacuum port goes to the air cleaner, maybe both. Does anyone have a photo or drawing taht they can post up for me please.

Its a 1600 twin port with original carb and air cleaner on a 72 crossover.

Thanks

Now with added photo

Either of those is correct. The manifold one will probably look neater if you use that.

It should be attached to the BRASS nozzle thing on the top of the air filter.

This is for a bug, but the connections are the same (i.e. brass to brass, plastic to plastic) (diagram taken from VZis Moby)

Oh, and before anyone else says it... sort those fuel lines out ;)

The upper one on the pump looks old, and that's a bad place for the fuel filter :) Not to mention the 009 dizzy, and so on

No worries :)

The fuel filter should be placed before the fuel pump. After the fuel pump, it will be under mild pressure, and more likely to crack/come loose, pouring petrol all over your engine. Personally, I fit mine underneath the petrol tank (which keeps it away from any electrics), but in the engine bay after the metal hard line, but before the pump, would be fine. Engine fires are (slightly) more common on old VWs than most classics.

The 009 distributor is a mechanical-only distributor made for generator/fixed RPM engines. It doesn't sense the engine load, so is also good for drag racing and performance applications (and so it became popular to fit them to otherwise standard engines). And they are cheap and easily available. On a street driven car, it will probably make a flat spot just off idle, and reduce your MPG by 2-3mpg. A stock vacuum/mech distributor, timed correctly, would give a marginally better drive. But it isn't too important, if you're happy with how it drives now.

As for the control flap/clip, I don't know. Secondhand, asking in the parts wanted sections of here, or Volkszone, would be your best bet. You may find it easier to buy a whole complete filter, and keep the remains as spare parts.
