Great idea Kempy.... 8)

As Mike says though funding may be an issue, as with all these things some will always pay and some won't... And with regular payments you then gop down the 'club route' which imo isn't what this forum is about really...?

Perhaps the best way forward would be to approach all the advertisers/VW companies who advertise on this site, me, Jo and Steve at VW Interiors, the Kieft and Klok boys to name but a few.

I would be more than happy to put up an annual 'Baydreamers Trophy'. And I'm sure the others would be happy to as well. Mutual back-scratching and all of that.....Then all the voting could take place from the forum users and the show visitors at Vanfest if that's where the 'awards' would take place.

Perhaps if you had a 'Van of the Year' Trophy you could get Camper and Bus Magazine to sponsor it.

As for categories, I'd say no more than half a dozen or so. how about

Original (unmodified)
Modified
Daily Driver
Restoration
Restoration on a budget
Commercial
Rat look

Whoops that's more than six  but you get the idea...

What does everyone else think?

How about 'Fastest EB' too

Hi
I use a site called http://www.theclassiccarshow.com
They have a car of the month, selected and voted by members I won it once and what a buzz :D ,this sounds like a great idea they had sponsers to put up the prizes ,I won some car wax and chrome cleaner GREAT IDEA

It all sounds like a good idea,I like the idea of there being live voting too rather than web voting, incorporating it with an earlybay line up at Vanfest or another appropriate show sounds good to me.Hopefully we'll get plenty more people in the lineup as a result 8)

Fot the record what inspired me to post this thread was not about who's got the biggest and most expensive wheels, paint job, NOS bits etc.......

I read the following thread the other night and it made me realise the time & effort others do towards the cause of VW ownership.

http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?t=556&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Yes i do get hands on but not to the extreme of others and thought it would be nice to recognise their efforts.

Mike

Why thank you Kempy :) It is nice to know that other people are inspired a bit by the work I've done to my van. Without coming on here and reading some other threads (I'd nominate Alfie's van thread as it has really inspired me) I doubt it would have ever been on the road now.

I have always wanted a VW van (admittedly I wanted a split originally but they were out of my student budget so an EB it was! I may be about to be hung for blasphemy now but I wouldn't want to swap my bay for a split now  )

I'll be trying to get my van to a couple of shows and EB meets this year if I can. I only did 2 shows last year, both of those were in my bug

Fingers crossed the van will be at Volksworld show '08 and perhaps vanfest/vanwest too :)

Right then here goes.

My original posting and idea was to award and recognise the hard work some people put in to get early bays back on the road.

In fairness I took the idea from Split Screen Van Club who award a van of the year at their AGM each year.

Rather than loads of catergories straight away I thought maybe to just have one.

Scott Wilson of http://www.vwclassics.co.uk/ has kindly agreed to sponsor the award and provide a trophy to the 2008 winner.

Voting could be held via the web site and at vanfest. All web voting via a poll and only from registered users to stop the bogus ones.

The web voting could be a little like the following :-

Any other ideas or thoughts people ????????????????????

Loving that one ^^ (from the vwclassics website) :D - especially the small air vents at the rear.

Now, why didn't I build that when I had the roof off?

I can't find any useful suggestions though...

i like the idea of keeping it simple, but i also like carole`s ideas and aaron and well evryones. The idea for vouchers from different sponsors is great. I am prepared to help out in any way possible but we`ll all need to get on board to make a success of it. I think with all the enthusiasts and business here on EB we can cover the catergories it`s just all agreeing on something and making it happen and it`d be awesome to get lot`s of business`s involved to promote everyone involved. How many guys could help out with sponsorship?
What`s your thoughts?

sounds like a cool idea to me.....
theres plentty of peeps out there that should be recognised for their hard graft and love of the EB!

btw...you speak of a calender......
im a photographer by trade and if you wanted to do something along those lines im more than happy to help out where i can.....just say the word....
