Hi guys and girls I'm just getting serious about looking for a Westy pop top I've seen one I famcy for sale and talked in depth with the owner he has been very kind and sent lots of photos. The van has had a light resto and fresh paint. The question I have is should all Westy pop top vans have belly pans fitted should I be wary if it hasn't. The owner has lots of documents to prove it was a genuine Westy.

Mike.

Ps those at Bristol see you in the morning.

I could be wrong but I thought all westys had belly pans fitted from the factory for extra strength. They could of been removed at some point. Other pop top conversions didn't all have belly pans

Thank you. I was under that impression too. Just a few more questions to ask and possibly more bargaining fuel.

Its probably better to buy one without pans, given the choice - so you can see the condition underneath.

You can always fit pans later, or paint...

They stopped fitting side Belly Pans to westys from 72 MY onwards, so from August 1971.

This was always the advice given on UK buses fitted with pans, but on a US bus I'd say not to be concerned about the pans, you should be able to tell from the outer sills (which will usually be og) the general condition of the bus. Its all that looks ok, there's no way the chassis will be rotten behind the pans.
