Very pleased to see there has been a happy ending - sounded like it was turning into a bit of a nightmare! Good luck with MOT etc!

thank you guys 8) i have the 386 form 8) to show duty paid , will be busy trying to get it sorted , would like to have had it done for stanford hall , but its pushing it a bit , if id have got last week it may have been :| .
Hi wheeto , so you dont need the lien / title to reg it , if you get a letter from the vw club gb , do you send them the chassis number and they sort out a letter to verify the year , i have lots of history with it , owner service manual with 1968 stamps in it and the original finance agreement too 8)

You need to contact Volkswagen UK (as in VW direct, not the owners club) and you give them your chassis number and they send you a letter confirming the date the van was built. It now costs about £30.
Basically you just have to prove when the van was built, doesnt matter about any previous registration papers as they vary from country to country.

I hate to be a pessimist but stanny hall may be pushing it, the DVLA may ask for you to book and appointment to inspect the vehicle. Basically they just look at it to check the chassis number hasn;t been tampered with.
In my experience inpections have been booked for as quickly as the day after next, and as long as a fortnights time.
Then again they may not ask to see your van at all, it seems to depends on which office you go to, how busy they are, who you are dealing with and what kind of mood they are in

stanford hall will be pushing it how things going :( . once took a h2 hummer limo to dvla for inspection and got a call two and half hours after to say i could collect the documents  8) a one off that one  usually about a week normally .

As far as I know they can give you a slip of paper that allows you to get the plates made up on the day but usually can't be arsed!
