Hi

I have a 71 with a dp 1600 (34 pict carb)which gets a little hot on motorways so I was going to pop in a 1600 sp (30 pict carb) I have and rebuild the 1600

I had planned on swapping complete engines maybe bar the Clutch but I just thought about the vacum for the brakes freom the inlet manifold

What are my options

Cheeers

Cheers

I was thinking that was going to be the answer.

Can I mig weld the inlet manifold?
What is the internal diameter of the pipe i have to put in.?
Does it need to go in at an angle like the current one?

Thanks a mill

Edit: I found the pipe size in one of your other posts Axel
"as you will need a manifold with a 11mm pipe for the vacume to the servo."

Is this internal size?

I havent done it yet, but my reasurch has shown that the external diameter of the pipe you need to weld on wi 11mm, Also I think Brazing is the best method of attaching the pipe.

let me know how you get on.

Hiya Deck,

And there is another alternative....................

Buy another manifold. The intake manifold for a 68 through AutoStick Beetle will do a very nice job for you. It has the 12 mm vacuum port already in place. All you have to do is hook up your wire reinforced rubber vacuum hose (You are running a proper wire reinforced hose to brake servo aren't you?). It's a perfect fit in all respects. Matter of fact, up until I changed back to a single port engine, I ran a 71 Bus intake manifold on my dual port AutoStick. Tit for tat!

And you find that AutoStick intake manifolds can be had pretty cheaply. I'd guess no more than 20 quid, perhaps cheaper than that. They almost give these things away here in the States.

Great advice but I only know of one auto bug in Ireland
They didn't catch on people like to have control in city traffic.
