I`m in the same position, wife wants kitchen done before i even dare to extend my garage :(
I need to double size of it , so i can fit my beetle and bus in. :D
I talked to my building control guy and he said if i keep it 30 square metres, no planning required ;)
Cheers Paul.

That's what my man told me about the 30m2 bit, but also height(more than 2.5m I think) and distance from boundary (less than 2m) can also mean planning is required

I ticked all 3 boxes  so no getting away from it

The above sounds about right, our eves are 2.48m high but we dug down a bit so garage is a bit like the tardis, got grassed up by neighbours and the inspector came round , he stood in garage and asked where we were going to build i said you are in it he looked at bus said cool, made a cup of tea and he said the neighbour sounded like a dick signed the deal off and never saw him again , top banana.
He did say if you wanted higher eaves on the boundary that even if neighbour complains about planning they have to have a genuine reason and not just that they dont like it, the planning dud ealso said same submit plans for what you want as mostly is within code then its normally accepted or at least comperamised.

Took ages to work out what we needed, well by we i mean i , instead of up and over made two single garage doors that open sideways so not to have height issues also made the side of garage removable( as i pics) for hangin in the garage with tunes outta the bus undercover bbq style. can get in the garage easy peasy with roof rack on too but we are i little bit lowered .
