Just got Febs mag delivered.

100 pages (including the back page) but 42 of them are adverts!!!

Good value at £4.20?

Regretting renewing my annual subscription.

Rant over...

I guess £4.20 a month is not a lot of money in the scheme of things.

and I'm sure if it wasn't for all those ads the magazine wouldn't exist / or be £4.20.

just saying.

Wife buys mine so don't care

Is light compared to some mags, but the others sell have a bigger audience ;)

Ads pay the bills and also are pretty useful. Be careful what you wish for ... Having a choice of mags is a luxury!

Slightly off subject, the thing thats annoyed me for years with mags is when the write up talks about a particular feature stating "look at this" and "notice that" etc and then dont show photos of said item.

Maybe its just me but sometimes it feels like some of the write ups seem to be cut short and not as in depth as they could be, which again maybe to do with printing constraints and/or advert space.

On the other hand come onto a forum like this not only do you usually get an indepth write up on resto's/mod's etc there'll be plenty of photos and you can ask the author/owner questions!

I'm sure we'd be lost without them but I think magazines will go the way of the CD etc and sadly things will go 95% digital/online.

Only time I buy them now is when my boss is paying for them, although he doesnt know that of course

Gotta say ads really nark me, but that said im not ignorant to how the smaller mags have to survive

Still i like reading all the mags i can and the outlaws pay my subs as a crimbo prezzie

Is Volksworld such a small mag...?

Yes ads are useful - if you happen to need that particular product or service, but it's about getting the balance right and I don't believe 42% advertising is fair. Would you be happy if you sat down to watch an hours TV and 30 mins of it was adverts?

Maybe it's just a slow-news month and things will improve. Hope so.

One thing I've noticed in camper and bus is that the stories seem very heavily edited. Things like "then we drove to Rome which was amazing. Then we were on our way to Germany" (ok not a real extract as I don't have one at hand). Surely more happened in Rome!

Yeah,,,, I always wondered about what had happened in Rome as well and all the other places that got cut short :msn4:

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Well I`ll just have to bloody well go there !!

Soz just re-read, thought u were on about camper and com

Its ipc media who owns it so im not surprised
Big ad sales dept and comission to be earned!
Most of their titles are like that.

And as they have their own bay to run they need all the income they can get

A bit like the ITV of mags :msn4:

Having written a few articles for magazines over the years I can confirm they are nearly always quite heavily edited, to get them to fit into whatever format/space the editor has decided on. Even when specifically asked for say 2000 words and 20 photos, the actual published article can often get reduced to half the amount of words and pictures originally requested.

It can be very disappointing, especially when so much effort has been put into making an article nicely rounded with a good "flow".

On the other hand many magazines go out of business each year and managing costs verses income is not easy. Many magazines run along the ragged edge just to survive.

It seems to me that whatever mag you buy the content and format are exactly the same. You look forward to the publication date, get excited at the articles that interest you then find they are so thin you are disappointed.Better to work on your bus and keep a log/scrapbook,makes much better reading.

I'd imagine its the same in most publications. My hockey team supply the local paper with write UPS every week, and personally I put in a lot of effort to make mine read well, and its so annoying when you open the paper and read just the first and last paragraphs of what you spent a long time writing.

I know what you are saying about camper and bus. I am getting bored with it TBH. I know everyone buys the mag for different reasons, personnaly i like the road trips and the show pictures. I buy my copy from the shop each month and take less than 10 minutes to read it. I also like the bits about people who have bought buses which are dug out of holes and restored makes me feel a bit more sane buying the piece of polished turd i bought :D.

I will still buy it though. :msn4:

I have also noticed the same feature appear in different publications a few times last year

Sorry, going more or less completely of topic but bertiethebus's comment made me laugh..

I know theres probably a few different ones but does anybody get the Camper Calendar? my outlaws have bought that for me for probably the last seven years and every January I cut the old one up and put it on the wall in my garage only to find duplicate photos every year

Last two years i've had camper and bug calendar and i'd say this years has at least 8-9 of last years photos just moved about  but they have finally added a couple of bays to the calendar and I kid you check out March if you have it  (and i'm sorry if its yours  ) but its just a rusty old late bay and by rusty I mean its a project gone in all the usual places not a nicely patina'd van. With the amount of stunning vans about im gobsmacked by it..

Anyway, back to topic.....

Well I'm not! sometimes peeps buy it for me or give me their's when finished, sooner spend the money on me Bus or buy some petrol for a cruz.
Might have to buy Feb's issue though as I've been told me Bus is in it   funny how I supplied the pics wrote the article & now have to buy it :? they don't give nuffink away they Boyz : ;)

i didnt renew my sub. it wouldnt cost much more to print more text and provide a more detailed write up. as it is the write ups are boring and really just padding between the ads and pics. because it is a mag for a fairly small audience and most of us are detail freaks it doesnt really tell me anything new each month.
just my opinion :?
