Hi, we are planning our first summer holiday to France this year in the van.
The plan is to leave work friday afternoon and get the channel tunnel about 8pm and camp close to calais Friday night, saturday we would like to get half way to Tours or that area and then finish getting to our destination which is a Biscarosse which is just south of Bordeux.
So I was wondering if anybody had any good recommendations for a campsite nice and close to Calais and in the Tours area?
We are planning on doing a similar thing for the return journey.

Any help would be great!

Hi we're doing France in the van last week of July first week August.

Used this site for booking as it seemed highly recommended

http://www.campingfrance.com/UK" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Driving to dover Friday, stay in hotel, ferry sat morning, Tour de France final stage sunday, then euro Disney for a week followed by Normandy for a week

There is a municipal campsite just before you reach Boulougne on the old road we stayed at last year,near shops,clean,quitet etc,personally I would not book anything,there are so many campsites and places to pull over and park in France it is quite unbelievable.Every town and village has a municiple campsite and camper parking area.We were in the Picardy and Haute Normandy regions and never had trouble finding anywhere.

A great Campsite about half an hour from Tours is Le Moulin Fort at Chenonceaux.

Run by an English family but typically French ;) , right next to the Cher river, a great spot.
(The web site is a a bit clunky best viewed in Explorer)

Did a similar route a few years back, stayed just outside Tours in a place called Amboise, a stunning village set on the river. Cant remember the name of the site but the the village was where Leonardo da Vinci spent time and there was a cool museum there dedicated to his works. worth a look if you like that sort of thing, you can google it, the whole area is beautiful, a perfect stopover.
