hi can anyone give me advice ive had to remove my chassis number in the engine bay to make repairs shal i jusst keep the orignal bet of metal or try and repllace it to new panel which will be quite obvious when it welded on also you can see the *2the other 2 and half the eight have tin worm the num carries on 12345*etc any advise welcome

dvla said that i should contact vw to make a replacement plate think their getting confused dont think vw would make a replacement engine side panel with my chassis num in?must be talking about ally plate behind seat which is where the mot bloke got the vin number from last mot

just document it take pics of it as is and store it with the V5 stamp the number back in as best you can......

spoke with a mate about this tonight ..

Knows his stuff .. Says anything registered pre 80 can be registered as vin or chassis number lost in restoration .. Therefore it can be replaced by you as required and shouldn't cause a prob for mot
