... so im toying with the idea of biting the bullet and buying my holy grail set of og pressed steel wheels ;)
and just out of interest i though i would see what the cost would be to strip them , chrome them and then detail them in black where it needs it etc... purely just out of interest as it probably would be sacrilage to do it this particular set of steels (although ive always thought about doing it to my SAs)

how much do you reckon my closest chrome plating business quoted?!? :msn4:

whatever you are guessing... you are nowhere near..... :?

£2500 - £3000 + vat for 4 RIMS!!!!!!!

guess i wont be doing that then...... ever!

It costs a ridiculous amount dood! I was going to get my notch hub caps redone as they are OG ones, but the price was nearly up with a new respray, so i didnt bother. It is a shame realy as if the prices were allot less then they would have a massive increase in business and im sure the turn over figures would outway the high prices in the end. ;)

I enquired about a set of wide GT wheels some time ago & found apart from the astronomical price, they won't even guarantee the work either due to the nature of its use i.e. road wheel = stone/grit damage.

Doesn't Frost sell kits so that you can do it yourself (sure I have seen something on Youtube also...) :?:

...think  ...when reading somewhere about chroming .....I found that chroming of large items is cost prohibitive in the western world due to major environmental issues :msn4: .....all the chemicals that are used kill people and planets  .......

.....hence the sunny climate chrome parts  .......so it is done in places where it is ok to kill people and planets with the chemicals ;)

you can get things powder coated in hyper silver which is the next best thing to chrome look, or you can buy chrome spray paint. obviously not as good as chrome but it doesnt bugger the planet up. only decent chromers are in the uk and us. proper triple plating is a skill and costs a mint. then you look at the vespa bits i used to buy  they were rusty straight out of the bag

Don't know if its any help but I know someone who had some BBS rims chrome plated - he sent them to Mike the Polisher in Scotland who prepped them and sent them on to Cali Chroming in the US for the actual chroming. Don't know how much but a lovely job though.

I'm with UberCool - lots of AutoSol and WD40...

Im struggling to get some chrome work done, ive phoned a few places and the price was just sky high and i dont think they wanted the work really. I was given a number of a place in London so spoke to them, sent the pictures he asked for and not heard a word back. Im going for NOS now  Its not much differance in terms of moneyfor the parts i require and the chrome quality should be better.
The price with chroming is in the labour. First its dipped to remove any crap then it needs to be polished to a very high standard and any imperfections sorted then and polished again before they can nickel dip it and then chrome it up to 3 times for really good stuff. Ive not seen any of that chrome powder coat in the flesh but for certain things would certainly work out as a better option. (running gear and engine parts etc) dont know as id want it on bumpers and handels etc.

Found some OG sprints then Jon?

maybe jon!!!!! :msn4:

the first time i powder coated my SAs i did it in hyper chrome powder....
looks really shiny for the first 4-5 months.... then went really dull!!

the problem was... to stop them going dull they needed to be clear coated... but if you clear coated the finish...it turned into a more of a wheel silver look! plus i had the black detailing powder coated over the top and the second go through the oven also dulled the 'chrome' finish....

you cant win!!!

hi i'm sure theres a bloke in doncaster who can powder coat like chrome
hold here it is
