Looking at either upgrading to electronic ignition or at leasy buying some spares for the dizzy I've got. Can anyone confirm from the picture if this is an 009 is something else?

Certainly looks like one, check the part number on it.
Doesnt look like you have any clips on your fuel filter, make sure you fit these a bit sharpish dont want it going up in smoke.

Stupid question but where do I find the part number?

(will fit some jub clips to the fuel line this afternoon)

It'll be stamped around the body of the distributer. It is as you feared an 009, they are not really suited to a stock VW engine. I'd save my money and get a good stock vacuum dissy.

Also don't use jubilee clips of fuel pipe, they go oval and can cut into the pipe use proper hose clips.
