Hi Floks,
Who here uses there bay during the winter?
Im putting some serious thought to this as i have a motorbike and my bay so really i dont want to add another road tax, MOT, Insurance to my list when i could spend that money on a good Heat Exchanger refurb or replacement that would last for years and add to my bus.
I do understand that it is good to keep them off the road for miles, salt and wet mud on the metal etc but is it false economy to but another car for winter time?

Ever Enquizative

Use mine all year round, we even have a camp out for New Year. :D

proper hardcore, wish i was that commited.

I use mine every friday for work even through the winter, as its casual day at work so if i end up getting oil on me so be it
normally keep it out for pootling around at the weekend

I've not had mine through a winter yet but I am working my ass off to get her new engine in and up and running and plan to put her a fair few miles on her :)

Need to have a fair decent few miles on her ahead of ninove so I know she wont break down

I used mine nearly everyday all through last winter. It also lives out on the street, starts first time when frozen and is warm after about 5 miles. So will be doing the same this year.
Just get it waxoiled and make sure the heating system works.

Thats quality and the new year camping bit sounds cold but interesting.
Unfortunately my heating doesnt work yet so thats why i was posing the question to see if it would be better to get mine working properly? or just get a winter car this year and fix as much as possible in the summer.

Hard decision i think but as you guys use them its a good sign.

As long as it's not in bits, I use mine whenever I can, all year round. The heater hasn't worked for a while (a combination of smelly fumes and the right hump with the heat exchanger fixings last time I put the engine back in) but a coat and hat and it's great...

Used it a few years ago in the height of the snow and ice to get to the builder's merchant to get a load of wood to fix a damaged stable and it went where many other modern cars couldn't (the joys of having sod-all torque and power but all the weight over the driven wheels)...

Been using mine as a daily for the last 3 months, heater works quite well needs some adjustment but is fine. I have a propex but don't use that unless I'm camping.

I have bought a cheap run around though as I want to do the interior and fix some minor issues, so I figured that taking it off the road when there's salt and wet isn't a bad idea.

BUT it will be costing me 550 for car and insurance, has road tax.

For me it's the fact I want to rebuild the suspension and do the engine oil seal. I also have a bike but that's a low mileage SV650 that I don't want to wreck either or fall off on icy roads.

I figure the car will still be worth nearly what I paid so I factor that running costs aside it will be almost free....

Once done though I do intend to use the van throughout - waxoiling and getting it in all the cavities is essential though...

Mines been my daily for the last 4 years now.

Takes bad weather in its stride and always fires up 1st time

Used mine right through last winter except for couple days when the doors were frozen shut  no heater but wrap up like an Eskimo....happy days

Use it as often as i can, but i do have a passion for flying to warmer places, so over the winter i spend more time in the air than in the bus

Lives outside so might as well use it! More sure footed in the snow than my micra, and the cube is auto so that'll be as much use as tits on a fish as well.

Blimey our numberplates are similar!

Because we both registered imports at Lincoln DVLA office. MFE is a Lincoln code. We registered a load of K plate busses and which were all "DBE" and we got numbers 96, 98, 99, and 101 so they must issue in numerical order.

Weirdest one for me was at bugjam, my old red beetle was SAB897L, got a bit confused when another red beetle drove past with SAB987L on!

Use mine all year. Providing it's well wax oiled & undersealed using a bus is no issue IMO. I do steam clean the underside every couple of weeks at work to get the salt off. Used it through 4 winters in salt, snow and mud plus it lives outside but is rock solid cos I take those precautions

I'm afraid to say my baby is tucked up in the garage. It gets s run out when it's dry and not salty. It does get lots of jobs done to it though over winter when it's not being used.
