Hi there  i am proud to say i am now an early bay owner. wing yip! .. however i cant lock my drivers door - just got the camper home and its getting dark now so cant really sort it out.. but hoping that someone may be able to give me some help or pointers for tomorrow :?:
as far as i can tell so far the door closes fine, the key turns in the lock and in turn pulls the wire inside the door - which pulls the inner door lock to the shut position,, so it all seems good but the door still opens just as normal??!!
The passenger side door does work and when turning the key to lock the door there does seem to be a much louder clunk!!

sorry for my poor explanation - i havn't been able to get a proper look and this is my first camper so i am just a newbee

thanks,, once i got the door sorted i willl post some pics up

for now lock from the inside and get out the other doors things will be easier in the light

i recommend taking the door card off and checking all the mechanisms and giving them all a grease

i did this last week and now my drivers side is working

hope this helps

jim

Firstly welcome to the forum dude, get some pictures up of your new earlybay 8)
I would agree with what Jim says, probably the door lock mechanism is a bit sticky and needs cleaning off and regreasing. This happened to the passenger side of my Westy, spayed a bit of WD40 on it and after a while it started working.I'm going to strip it right off and give it a good clean and grease up soon though,as it's still a bit stiff.
Whilst I'm there I'm changing the barrell tumblers to get all the doors on one key (hopefully)

cheers guys... gonna get greasy this a.m and will try to post some pics of the camper tonight,,,, thanks :D

sorted it
un-did thos three bolts to free up the door locking mechanism - worked out that the mechanism had sort of sunk down and just needed pushing up while screwing back on... i love how simple old volkswagon stuff is.. although i know i will eat those words pretty soon!
covered it all in wd40 while i was there..
thanks for your help, Rowan.
