Hi all
Starting the resto on my 71 bus,i'm going thru the list of parts i want to replace and im a little confused about the std brakes,i have early discs and calipers up front and no servo which is i believe std fit.
Re: rear brake assembly,i noticed later bays have different brakes from mine,
what is the difference?
Can i retro fit to mine without having to fit a servo?
Can i also run later front discs assembly without a servo?
What about the master cylinder then?
Thanx for looking
Chris

I have a 1971 bay and that has early discs upfront and no servo, so that is std fit for that year.

I have no idea about the rear brakes though, sorry.

I have a '71 with disk brakes and a servo... :msn4:

The big difference between early and late rear brakes is that the early style drum cannot be taken apart without removing the big castle nut on the stub axle.

You cannot change the style of rear brakes very easily (I asked this just last week! See here: http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=65132" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Oh, and yes, you can run any brake configuration without a servo. But servo assisted is better!

Ok,thanks for your input
Rear drums from 71-79 are the same but not the shoes,
Whats the difference?

Looking at those pics, I appear to have late bay rear brakes then.

Yeah, '71 early bays with early discs up front, had late rear drums with 1 year only shoes.

Crossover onwards had late discs and late drums, but with different shoes to the '71 early.

You can modify late calipers to replace the early calipers with spacers. JK do these.
