I sold an engine through ebay. It was returned as SNAD( signifigantly not as described..fair enough)Full refund including shipping was given.
Engine returns here. So we start it up to make sure all is as it should be and a big cloud of smoke. Upon investigation several screws were found amongst the heads and pistons...weirdly no valve damage but a scrap bottom end.Ebay intrested ...my foot
I have a bmw fraud investigator willing to stand in court and testify....any help from trading standards or ebay ..my second foot.
Police..think they are intrested..well my third one.
So only recourse is civil court and i hold little hope from the previous
The evidence is there and the only way this could have happened is to remove spark plugs place foreign objects in and then replace spark plugs as testified by a former bmw fraud investigator
I ask how could someone be so vindictive given that they`ve been promised a full refund. It has now ruined any engine sale in future for any ebayer. It has also resulted in me having to increase my prices to protect myself against just this kind of situation.
So.
I`ve lost £1000 with no real recourse that will definately secure results. So if i`m expensive then blame the buyer that did me over and if anyone on here knows them just remind them that that was completely out of order...

That is really ****, why would someone do that? You have his address, I would go round and confront the fella, its too easy to take the pi$$ on your computer :x Tell him face to face you will be taking him to court, he might botttle it and give you your cash

i`m not like that..and its heat exchangers had been hacked which i hadn`t noticed so SNAD fair enough. I`m just shocked someone could be so vindictive..it did drag on for weeks and weeks and at one point he even threatened to drive to cornwall and well " kick you £££££££ head in" because i would only refund through paypal...nice. should have known then that it had all gone wrong

Sounds like a nightmare :(

Couldnt you just have sent him heat exchangers? Or the cost thereof?

Its only a bottom end ... £200? ;)

Ebays a minefield, I sold some Oakley stuff, described as damaged/spares or repairs, when he received them he moaned they were damaged  I refeunded him immediately ... Ive chased the return as yet to no avail ....
I also returned stuff to a trusted seller he'd sent me accidentally ... still no postage refund or even thanks :(

98% of deals are cool though :D

That really dose suck! How about outing this ebayer on here 8)

Just

Nah, ebay business is just that ;)

:)

I suppose that is the problem with selling and buying over the internet is that it is less personal and more faceless - people can be more a b@stard than if you were face-to-face - Internet seems to bring the worst out of some people (did that make sense??)

Scott, sorry for your loss and hope it hasn't left to strong a sour taste in your mouth :(

Also ebay is very much in the favour of the buyer these days, ive known people pay via paypal then collect the goods then complain to ebay that they never received the bits and get a refund at the sellers expence

Just

I feel for you Scott :( the guy is a f*cking moron

By and large ebay buying/selling transactions run quite smooth, but when it goes wrong, it goes wrong big time.

exactly! i avoid it like the plague unless theres something rare im after.

I've had at least two experiences like that. I even had a chargeback from Visa for no reason at all and none given to Paypal, but Paypal still take the money from you, and the buyer dissappeared. I lost about £250 from that one.

e bay works 99% of the time ,you pays you cash you take your chance...

I got upset at a e bayer once ,that upset I told him i was going the get in the car next morning and drive to his house and sort him out [or words to that effect]... :x

he sent me a e mail within a hour refunding my cash...

sorry to hear your story Scott , but keep the faith.... 8)

as creationblue said..ebay is 100% behind the buyer. They have their set policies and regulations and if you don`t tick that box then goodbye and goodnight ..you lose
However, after muchos telephone calls( approx 10 hours on hold), muchos please fill in this customer satisfaction surveys which have progressively got more relevant the more irate i got...i see light at the end of the tunnel. I actually have a request to send evidence( which i have lots of)..sorted lets see where that one goes.
Ebay is a marvellous market place and i love the sales i get from it but i monthly get problems some worse than others and its generally ill informed numpties expecting brand new second hand 40 year old parts!  ;) Theres an old saying" grasshopper stick his head above parapit..grasshopper gets shot at"

scott im sorry to hear whats happened, but i would have to have someone rearrange him in about 6 months time. i run a business and i find it amazing how some people demand this and that and not paying for this or that over the phone, when you arrive at their office unannounced the attitude seems to change some what.

ebay has changed a lot, as a seller now you cant leave neg feedback. i sold an item a second hand psp bout 80 quid some knob in america with no feedback bid at the last minute, non payer, luckily 2nd chance offer sold it.

hope it gets sorted

Blimey Scott that sounds like a total nightmare, really feel for you. It just makes you wonder what makes some people tick!

Hope you get it all sorted out quickly.

I sell a lot of refurbed engines on ebay and INSIST on buyer coming to collect it. Its run for them on the bench and really put through its paces. I let them check absolutely everything and only when they are sure its what they bid on does money change hands. Cash sale only - don't go near paypal. That way, if there are any problems you can sort it out like civilised people rather than via ebay's hideously complicated dispute resolution service.

If you send engines sooner or later you will get messed around with because, as mentioned above, ebay is strongly on buyers side.

Making them come and get it weeds out the idiots too.

Thus far I've been lucky. Sold at least 40 engines over past few years and never heard a peep out of any of the buyers and have only had one non-paying bidder, but relisted that engine and got my money the next week. If one in a thousand ebayers is a ********, unfortunately that means there's several thousand ********* out there, so thats the price we all pay for using ebay and scoring those hard to find bargains.
