hi
got a 1968 vw t2 bay.
also i got an empi gearlever.. with :shock: the reverse trigger on it.
also i got a lot of hassle getting me gears..i can get 1st..3rd..4th..and just about reverse.
is there any speciaal way this gearlever is fitted??
as i try to get her in 2nd it iis grindiing. like its tryin to get into reverse.
gearbox is good ..all bushes etc have been renewed.
can anyone help so i dont pull all me bodily hair out.

I've just had the same problem having removed the standard gear lever whilst fitting a new front beam.

I followed the advice in Clarksons link and it worked a treat.

In short though (forgetting torque settings and various angles etc), with the engine/ignition off:-

1. Loosen the two gear lever mounting bolts

2. Engage second gear

3. Nip the two bolts

4. Ensure other gears are available

5. Tighten the bolts.

This got me out of trouble until I could set the lever and plate more accurately.
