was my genorator put everything back together spaced it with shim's all was fine. Just was over to an alternator and fans spin freely without touching anywhere but as soon as i put the fan belt on it touch's the fan shround and will not turn, tried shiming it both way and just can't get it right, is something bent ? do you think a new fan and fan shround would sort it ? has anyone else had this problem after fitting an alternator ?

So, you had a dynamo fitted the fan span freely no scraping on the housing

You fitted an alternator spins freely until the belt is fitted....

there deffinately shouldnt be that kind of movement, is it the shaft that has play or is it the alternator moving in the stand?

remove the belt and check for excess play by pulling and rocking the pulley

make sure the alternator is fixed firmly and the clamps not loosened

whs /\

I've got a gen here u could try...but there's someone probably closer

also assume its same fan? as there is different thickness? did you use the alternator tin??

i used the genorater backing plate  swapped it for the one in the kit and made a 2mm spacer to go inbetween the alternator and its base plate clamped it nice and tight and all it good.

thank you

I found this, the plates look exactly the same and wanted to use the og one as it was better quality. BUT they were slightly different, as you say about 2mm of offset difference.
