Apologies for the lengthy post! We've been doing a lot of work on the interior of Fanny.
We've replaced all of the roof and side ply with birch lining from custom designs. The fit was reasonable but did require some trimming. The ply was slightly thicker than standard and so the correct popper studs wouldn't hold it in. We bought some coach bolts that were very shiny and did some aging with vinegar. We then jenolited them to prevent rusting and are very please with the final look.
We've redone the window seals and replaced the door card on the passenger side. We've also (perhaps controversially) covered the original face of the rock and roll bed with birch veneer as the front face of the buddy seat has been destroyed by the previous owner and we wanted to tie everything in together. We're going to cover the rest of the buddy seat soon. We've got an appointment with camper shak for a new cupboard next week.
We've had a full rewire and leisure system fitted by Iain from aircooled autoelec and have fitted a new fuel sender, fuel filter and save my bug dipstick. We've fitted new rocker gaskets, adjusted the valve clearances and fitted new plugs and ht leads. We had a bit of a disaster on the bonnet when the hinge snapped. They were jammed in pretty tight and had to use plenty of WD40 and a screwdriver bit on a wrench to get them out. We've replaced one with a new hinge and are building our strength back up to have a go at the other one in the future ha ha. We've fitted a new starter battery too.
After much deliberation we chose some interior lights and are very happy with them. They have individual switches on and look good! They were from a chandlers website. Ours has a hinge cover rather than a headbanger locker and it is in a fairly sorry state much like the rest of the interior ply was. But we have a cunning plan to cover it with a couple of layers of the birch veneer as it's very flexible and can even be cut with scissors.
We're working on eliminating some water ingress around the old aerial aperture before laying our new carpets. A friend is taking all of the dents from the bumpers before they're resprayed cloud white. We're also working on finishing off our homemade kitchenette but when we went away for the first time this year last weekend we used a portable stove which was fine for a one night stay. We've decided to just use a cool box and cool bag combination under the buddy seat rather than a fridge and are going to see how that goes.
We've purchased an olpro loopo breeze awning but haven't had the chance to try yet. We've also bought a pooh tent ha ha but the jury's out on that so far as it's a bit sh*t [emoji23]. It's a pop up tent and we can't get the poles to untwist.
So we're nearly finished (or as finished as anyone's van gets!). That was quite cathartic documenting everything we've done so far! Makes you realise how much progress you've made. [emoji4]
