Hi all ,

Just been trying to remove the fuel pump to change the gaskets before i refit the carb and i cant get the plastic flange off the block , just wanted to check if there was a knack at doing this as i dont really want to force it to much because it seems brittle any ideas ?

Also does anyone know the type/size of the nuts that hold the fuel pump/inlet manifolds on ?

And finally does any one know what size socket is needed for the fan bolt (only if you know of the top of your head as i could measure it tommorow ) and the best way to remove it when the fan housing is removed ?

sorry does anyone know where i can get the gasket between the pump and flange also , seems that everyone only does the gasket between the flange and case ..sorry guys lots of questions i know ..

cheers
john

You have have to be careful with the fuel pump pedestal because as you say they are brittle - you can easily snap it and be left with the shaft stuck in the block. Best thing to do is squeeze a thin screwdriver or blade under the pedestal and ease it out gently.
If it snaps you can run a long bolt down it once the pump rod is out and thread the bolt in so it grips then pull the shaft out.

Most engine gasket kits should include a block to pedestal and a pedestal to pump gasket. The former is just a hollow version of the latter, so you could always draw round and make your own if you were feeling especially tight!

The pump and inlet manifold nuts are m8x1.5 thread for a 13mm spanner.

Fan nut is about 21mm-22mm IIRC.

Unless you have a leak from between the pedestal and the case its safest to leave it alone since removing an old one is risky as per Slammed's post.

Pump and manifold nuts are M8 13mm socket

thanks guys , I think i am gonna leave it in place as its not leaking yet , i was just changing all gaskets i could as engine has been stationary for about 4 years . as it is one i can change later if needs be when the engine is in .

cheers for the size info too .

I thought you were in Diss - I'm out that way later.

I get my wheels blasted for free through a mate but I dunno who actually does them.

I've never used them, but Colorcote near Hethersett and Aerocoat at St Olaves both come highly recommended by our club members.
