Sorry if this should be in 'Technical', but wondering if the flywheel 'O' ring is available separately from anywhere? Buying a complete gasket set that I don't want for the best part of twenty quid seems a bit excessive for one 'O' ring...
Much thanks in advance. 8)

is there anything special about the rubber in this O ring? Even four fifty sounds like Oh my gosh for just an O ring. I got a pack of about thirty or so various sizes for about three quid, ok not quite as big as this, but is this highway robbery or is it scene tax :?

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,, but if you gotta have one.

No, nothing special, its just buying one from a VW parts place is going to be way more expensive than buying bulk from a seals specialist. It's just knowing the right size to order is the problem sometimes. Makes it easier to order the one from such a place as VW Heritage and the like. I've just ordered a load of (25) O rings for my bolt on rocker cover bolts from a seal supplier for not much more than one of these. It's all about convenience at the end of the day I guess.

Good idea, I used to have shiney bolt on covers but they disappeared in the midst of time (and engine changes) but I never had any issues with them leaking like the ones I got now. Brazilian I think on a Heritage engine. I know it`s easier if you got him on a ramp but I`ve fiddled and fiddled with these ones and theyre starting to get close to going in orbit now. I was also gonna try the expensive silicone gaskets too, have you tried them ?

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,Oil leaks??? HHhhmmmppp who`d have em

I've had my bolt ons now for must be nearly 20 years. First thing I did was clean up the casting marks on the inside edge where the gasket sits, since then, dry cork gaskets, no grease or sealant and no leaks.

Thanks for the replies. Local GSF supplied the new clutch (sachs) and silicone oil seal, but couldn't find the two O rings showing on stock! Local bearing company matched the O ring for 25p.....
New clutch working fine, nice and light, no issues but still leaking oil from bottom of bell housing just as before. Definitely engine oil, not EP90.
Flywheel fine, polished on seal mating area but no lip or damage. Trial fitted flywheel with new O ring twice to ensure it seating correctly, perfectly happy with the fit. Smear of fresh oil on all surfaces to prevent drag/damage, rotated flywheel when tightening, blah blah etc etc, done this process so many times over the years on so many different vehicles, I'm no guru but am perfectly able and C&G MVCS qualified to change an oil seal...
What the heck am I missing here? There was a quantity of black silicone around the cam blanking plug behind the flywheel but find it hard to think that could be the source. Have I got it wrong with the O ring, should I have waited until Monday for the part from GSF?
Doing my nut in big time now, good job there's not a gallon of petrol and a match close by.

Probs just a bad flywheel oil seal. Try another best quality one, and get another o-ring at the same time, its a gamble with this stuff - you may well be lucky next time!

Shocking state of affairs really ...
