Front beams

ive got a wagens west set up on my westy, just wondered what my options are if i start a new project. Link pin beams seem to be the way forward ( or back ) looking around. I would not have the time or skill to do it, T2D are my closest specialist i think, but ive seen good thing from slamwerks etc recently on various threads. Im gonna need good brakes too 8)

and recommendations on costs/set ups etc.just trying to get a few ideas together

Not really answering your question but im pretty impressed with the setup you have.
Ever thought of putting your westy back to stock and using your running gear on something else, tintop bus, panel or doka maybe?

Depending on the age of the bus you are thinking of working with there are different routes.

If you get a pre Aug 69 I would go down the route of OG KnL beam and dropped spindles - ask PeteB, he's done this.

Later bus I would use the slamworks stuff as the quality seems good at the moment.

From a ride and handling point of view ball joint beams are better. But for slamming a bus, king and link pin beams are better because once you go past a certain angle with ball joint's they bottom out causing a harsh ride.

As for brakes i've been told that the CSP kit is the way to roll

if my bus goes i will be starting again, so im just interested in whats now available since i bought my set up 2 years ago, i could go down the same route, but the dollar aint as attractive, and there seems to be a lot of options with companies like slamwerks etc now

Fair enough. When i get round to lowering my bus, i'm going the Red 9 coil-over route with my 1970 Westy. The price is good for a 5 inch kit plus it will still give a good ride and and handling.

SR Id recommend you pop up to Slamwerks everytime now . Guy has all the stuff you need and He is significantly cheaper than others and as I personally roll his products there Very good quality too . If you dont have the time /knowledge to fit it all Slamwerks offer an installation service at there workshop As for brakes CSP non vented kit is good even from 100mph :mrgreen:

Hi,
i managed to have a quick chat to mark from the bus station at beach buggin recently, (top guy), really knows his stuff, he was saying that cost wise for a knl front beam drop spindles slam job, about £1800 all in, just to give you an idea, i dont know how this compares to all the other options out there, (i havent got that far yet!!) he did timmo24 s westy that was in camper and bus, looks the nuts!, might be worth dropping timmo24 a pm, or marks on here sometimes, i think his user name is 68only,

cheers guys, slamwerks certainly seem to be highly recommended, T2D are closer, but i guess significantly more expensive from what ive heard, i just gotta find a suitable bus for the next project once my driveways clear of the 3 buses ive currently got :lol: :lol:

got someone looking at the keeper today, and someone else coming during the week, so i could be down to 2 by next weekend :shock: ( although those 2 are both on a big ship somewhere at the mo :lol: )

my new 72 looks nice, but i dont fancy converting the 1700 to an upright type 1, so thats kinda out, so on the lookout for either a deluxe or tintop westy maybe

i too did what your doing,explored every avenue,and can tell you from a cost point of view slamwerks every time,other companies must simply be robbing you blind of your hard earned cash as the difference is very big,how they can warrant the prices baffles me.

Im staying ball joint on mine and am currently fitting the T2D spindle kit, and adjusters, to get a decent drop and good ride. Im not narrowing, but changing rims to acheive the best offset possible on a 15" non-stock rim.

Im doing all the work though. I couldnt afford to do half as much to my van as I do if I was paying labour to anyone, and I love doing it!

T2D and link pin beam with porsche 944 discs all the way for me.
T2D do other work if you need it, not just slamming. They may not be the cheapest but you do get what you pay for ( I hope anyway)
Good thing with the porsche set up is you can get pads from your local autofactors unlike the csp kit and if your running porsche rims you can get the caps on too.

Not strictly true as from memory pads for the CSP kit are from a Vauxhall Astra or similar vehicle so can be obtained from a local motor factor as well,

Well I did'nt know that............but you still cant get the caps on porsche wheels with csp unless you use some serious spacers.

All of the CSP kits I've seen always have a huge dust cap sticking out of the centre wheel hole making it impossible to get a cap on. If I'd known that the cap can be reduced and that they run astra pads I would have gone with the CSP setup as they do look better than the porker brakes (nice chunky looking caliper).

slamwerks everytime as good as t2d but half the price (guy i want some money off my rear slamming, must have sent 10 people your way after pm's off my build thread ) quick easy and straight forward.
