well its been 2months and i think i'm settling in nicely....for a place to stay, found a set of daily wheels (holden astra :( ) and attended an air-cooled meet! its a monthly meet at a cafe about 3km from my place :). what i have noticed is that it makes me miss my bus even more than i thought. I know that i put 5yrs of effort, sweat tears and...money, but is so strange that i miss an "inanimate object" so much.

I would love to buy another air-cooeld out here but i'm still converting back to GBP and think the cars are super expensive...possibly because i'm half thinking about shipping it back on my return in 2yrs. my mrs is saying that its a waste of money lol.

also, travelling 70km to work and 70km back each day means that its unlikely that i will be able to use it as a daily.

anyways, i wanted to just say Hi to you guys who have been so helpful over the past 5yrs. I'm still contemplating the feasibility of hunting some RHD vehicles and parts to send back to the UK so keep an eye out ;)

Sorry Graham for not keeping it on topic very well.....hehe just kidding :)

p.s. we're celebrating the Queen's brthday on moday so i'm off to celebrate with a weekend of wine tasting :)

And G Day to you ,,, Ows it goin mate ;) She`ll be right,, I know there is so much to see and do there, but try to find some time on a Satdee Arvo to take in the sounds and smells and general excitement at Calder Drags. I don`t know if it`s the same now, but I can`t see any reason why not,,, Holden boys against the Ford boys and all the associated barracking that goes along with it. Expect to see a few Dubs doin the quarter mile as well ;)
Unusually today,, the sun is out and we`re into a real good long weekend with the Friday to Sunday forecast for awesome weather for my first Dub event of the year at Bristol so nice and local as well. Just about to go and play lumberjacks  and chop come wood for the barby  This year we`ll have barbeque pizza, corn on the cob, bacon bananas, and anything else I can dream up. Sounds like you`re almost native now mate :D

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Just don`t go walkabout,, ;)

Glad you've settled in nicely mate. Shame about the weather.

I told you **** was expensive back in Oz. Melbourne is now equal 4th most expensive city to live in the world with Oslo.

So where are you living? Interested to know more about how you're finding everything. :D

nice to see you are settling in dude, I have a mate who may be importing his bug over to OZ next year apparently it costs about 4k!!

keep an eye out for some busses, you could send a few our way :)

Hi Nathan, good to hear from you. Sounds like your doing well out there :)
70k commute seems rather a lot - cant you move closer? Mind you if the roads are like in the US then 70k is not too bad I guess. Looking forward to seeing a few pics of how things are over there for you.

hey guys.

just got back from a weekend of wine tasting on the New South Wales and Victoria boarder. awesome laugh with new friends. cant argue with that!!

Aspro, things are expensive, but must admit, the increase in pay compared to UK does mean that we are better off. rent is massively more expensive, but fuel is under £1/litre. food is a little more expensive, but not by the same increase in pay. generally, i think we are going to be ok :)

Mark, is the beetle, the satin black oval?

Rik, its pretty much 100kph all the way so can do it in about 45mins. half on the freeway and half on straight outback roads so a little quicker than 100 ;).

thanks Jon. we're loving so far!!!

now time to start saving for that aussie air cooled :)

Sounds awesome Nate. Those are some of the best wine regions in the world. Really happy that you have settled in nicely.

So what suburb are you living in at the moment?

Welcome to OZ!

We've been here 8years, I was told sell your early bay and you'll buy 2 in better condition for the same money! Yep that certainly wasn't the case! Cars in general are very expensive in comparison to the uk but on the plus side worth something when you come to sell your car.

Hope you settle in well.

Mike

Thanks Mike,

where abouts you live?

i know what you mean about the price of all cars... i met up with a guy a couple of weekends ago and he was saying that with the exchange rate a couple of months ago he was considering importing vws from....you guessed it....UK lol

It was my belief that the Australian equivalent of the Vauxhall Chevette & Vauxhall Astra, was the Holden Gemini Mk. 1 & Mk. 2.

I'm still trying to find out, whether the estate-car versions (i.e. wagon, in Aussie parlance!) of these cars, were equipped with the cross-over-arm, pantograph rear window wiper (as found on the Vauxhall Chevette & Astra Mk. 1 estate cars), which can be readily adapted, to create a bonzer rear-window wiper, for the 1968~79 VW Type 2.
