ok I need some help as I'm pulling my hair out :( I've got a 1968 gear box from my bay, I've bought a new 215mm clutch kit which as a different release bearing, so what I need to know is can i buy the bar that holds the newer release bearing and will the bar be compatible with my box ?

the reason behind this is I'm putting in a 1973 1600tp engine so I'm using my 68 box on a 73 engine any other for seeable problems :|

Why not use the flywheel and clutch from your old engine?

well I cant get the flywheel nut off I've been bashing the crap out of it all day  I've put a breaker bar on it, put a grove in it and hit it with a chisel, bounced on the bar and I weigh a heft 17 stone  any suggestions of how to get it off?

Borrow a Torquemeister. I only did it once with a bar - never again.

When you fit a different flywheel you should check the end float and re-shim so it's within tolerance.

OTHER THAN A LONG SCAFOLD POLE  you can fit later release bearing but you need to get conversion piece ,thats the nose the bearing slids on.

If you can borrow a torquemiester you will be amazed at the power and ease of undoing that bastard nut or stick the engine in the back of your car/van and see if your local garage will do it with the 1" big air gun

Your right it is a bastard of a nut  I had a foot scaffold piece on my breaker bar today the fecker didn't budge a bit  so I'm off to an air cooled specialist tomorrow and see if he can get the frigging thing off  on the upside I no longer feel stressed as I'm knackered

Ha-Ha-Ha - a foot? You need six feet extension and then try and keep the engine still! A torquemeister needs about 30 lb/ft torque on an 11mm socket - one hand while you have a cup of tea. It uses the engine so no need to tie it down. Makes me smile every time I use it. Like this :)
