Gearbox Nose Cone Boots

I have A '71 Westy and am just about to refit my gearbox after a rebuild.

When removed the box didn't have a nosecone boot on so I've purchased one from Scholfields and fitted it.

Has anyone else fitted one of these? It seems an incredibly tight fit and I'v managed to get it up to the cast mark on the nosecone but then there doesnt appear to be a lot left to insert into the linkage.

Could anyone confirm that this is correct :-

May be you just need to pull the shaft out to its maximum (i used a mole grip), cant tell how far its out on yours with the boot on but this photo may help, looks like its about 45mm ( the photo is a 6 rib box but i dont think there is any difference)
