Your findings are much the same as mine using a +2 liter engine mated to a 1600 box re-built using a 4.57 final drive.

The only thing is that top gear is now a bit too long for 30 miles an hour when in town and were i to do it again I would be tempted to use the cw/pinion set from a 1.8

Lower profile tyres could of course also solve this niggle.

Huge thanks to you for posting all the ratio stuff, it helped me understand things a bit better. I have passed it over to loads of people on late bay, so thanks on behalf of them as well.

I've not done much round town driving as yet, so can't comment on that one yet. I think ill be happy round town in 3rd anyway!
