How do you tell the difference between a genuine Bosch 009 distributor and the copies? I gather the copies are inferior ?
I bought one from VWSpeedshop a couple of years ago that has never been used (~ £60 if I remember correctly), came in a yellow Bosch box. I was thinking of selling it, but dont want to mislead potential buyers.

What is the part number? If you turn it upside down it should have Bosch stamped near the base of the shaft.

German Bosch is considered the best, and comands a higher price. Brazil Bosch used to be cheap, but I saw NOS ones at the Vegas Bug In for $150. They have a different advance curve to the German Bosch ones, and different total advance. I was given a sample copy made by some local Indians, and these tested out as being in-between the German and Brazillian 009, and considerably cheaper than either.

Cheers for replies, did a bit more investigating and it appears to be a brazilian bosch 009. Might just keep it as an emergency spare in the van (its got an unused pertronix ignitor fitted in it).

Although just thinking about it in all the years I have driven my vans & beetles, I cant remember a single time I have used any of the spares I carry other than for regular servicing(and I carry plenty). :D
