Taken a look at the ukcampsite website and there are loads of sites around the lakes so it's hard to know one from the next.

Anybody have any top recommendations? :D

Gillside farm in Glenridding, basic facilities, great setting and 2 minute walk into village with pubs and shops, and of course a lake, Ullswater.

great langdale, national trust site is great! fantastic scenery, and a couple of really good pubs a couple of minutes walk away.http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-global/w-localtoyou/w-northwest/w-lakedistrict-feature/w-northwest-lakedistrict_camping/w-northwest-lakedistrict_camping-langdale.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Stayed in quite a few and would agree with Monty, Fisherground. Especially if you have kids. Facilities are basic but you are camping. By far the best campsite i have ever stayed in.

This one is an absolute stunner best place Ive camped in the lakes, only one problem its tents only.

You could ask if she will let you stay over night in the small gravel car park.

Even if you dont camp there its well worth a visit to this part of the lakes.

Its out of the way a bit so you dont get the hoards that are else where in the lakes, and there's a couple of good pubs.
