thanks in advance

just about to change fuel lines this weekend and I have just changed oil today which to be honest had a whiff of petrol in it and was very thin.

Maybe fuel pump leaking into case ? I've had this and it does make the oil very thin and smell of fuel .
Presuming it's a mech pump that it

thanks just checked pump the bolted stand looks wet where it is bolted, and iam sure its making a noise when engine running that wasn't there last week.

starting to look like the fuel pump to me now and would i be correct in thinking the noise is the push rod worn out??

The diaphragm in the fuel pump could be split - that's where the fuel will be leaking through into the case. ( if it is! )

There is two different push rod lengths depending on which fuel pump, easy enough to take out the pushrod and measure it when you take of the fuel pump. Depending on whether you repair it if it is the repairable model or replace it make sure you get the right pushrod for that fuel pump.

Thanks to all,
do I just go for a new one and swap over which sounds better to me as I have little time ,if iam buying new who and where are the best pumps to buy ,ive read a few horror stories regarding the non original so need some feedback before I buy, its a standard 1600 lump.

Not sure who sells good ones as I got mine from GSF, and the first one lasted a month and a half, but the second one kept going for over a year. Get yourself a new pushrod and try that first, the trouble is the new pushrods are made of toffee and wear very very quickly, but you need a `matched ` pushrod to the fuel pump, I think there`s just two sizes though. If your pump is gurgling, it may be possible to get a rebuild kit for the diaphragm. By all means swap your pump and get him going again, but don`t just junk your old one as you can rebuild it and have a spare ;) Change your oil too while you got that stuff going on.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,, And we call this fun

Thanks again for all advise I have renewed the filter and hoses today and it's running great with no petrol smells, gurgling or noise from pump so touch wood it may have been the knackered old hose and filter.
