Hi All

I know this van may have featured in the past but as I've just bought it from MissFish I thought I would post some images of Hank here on the forum. He's a 1970 model but have not really checked out numbers yet to see when he was made etc. he's fitted with a westfalia interior which I think is an 'Amsterdam' but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

He was imported from Arizone in 2005 and I picked him up at the weekend, first real drive of a vw camper and it was 150 miles and I loved every minute of it. :D :D :D :D

Hope to get him to a few shows this year and have posted in technical as to how I get the front end back up (too low for the speed bumps round here)

Solved it, piccies now working

There's also another baywindow called "Hank", from TX, here

I had to try that pic too:

Seems to work, so you got to clik on the pic with right mouse button and choose "copy image adddress" or something similar, and then paste that between IMG tags. The address to the pic I added is:

Thanks Tipi, cracked it by uploading them to photobucket which is easier than photobox :D :D

super looking van and with the full lenght westy roof rack and ride height im sure your happy,

welcome to EB 8)

Cool lookiong van you have there, I love tin tops and that roof rack is wicked.

Hank is the best camper name too ;)

Saraj

Roof rack is great however it makes a lot of noise at 70mph on the motorway, or is that just the areodynamics of the bus iteself

70 mph i'd be happy with that mate mines good for about 60 after that i've no idea how fast i'm going as the speedo shakes to much!

I dont think that would be a good defence for a speeding ticket!

saraj - Thanks but I'm keeping it for my 'Hank' :D

ddffrost - 1641 engine, seems to do 70 with ease :D

Great choice.

That's a very sweet bus you have there Graham! Inside and out is spot on!! 8)

If he is lowered on the beam you will have to see if it has an adjuster/s fitted, if so support with a jack and supports - losen adjuster/s - Jack up to desired height then tighten adjuster/s back up. If it's been cut and turned.......you will have to cut and turn back (Big Job) or fit a replacement beam :?

I like the height, just a bit lower on the back too? But hey it'd look super cool whatever height! Pure Westy Porn...Mmmmmm 8)

Sam

Just checked the tyres, the fronts are 185/60/14, which I think are too small, looking at putting 185/65/15's on it instead.

Dubberdaz
Sent you an online message ref my front axle, hope thats OK?

I would have thought that just having standard size tyres on it would help.

Originally, VW specificied that the T2 should have 185/80/14 commercial 8ply tyres on it. I still run them, and it makes for a nice ride quality on a lowered bus (high side wall = added suspension!)

However, modern tyres are made to deal with weight greater than that of a tintop bus anyway, so I shouldn't worry too much about the commercial part. Lots of people run car tyres on their VW vans with no issues :)

This is all assuming that the front tyres won't rub anywhere if larger tyres are fitted?

Nice van too :D

Stick the same tyres on the front as the rears.

That way it will help balance the height and also you can carry a genuine space in case you get a flat.

PS also sell the fronts and get some money back.
