I'm now workig on the electrics on my '71 Dormie rebuild. Having stripped out all the wiring when it went to be painted, I'm checking and renewing wherever needed (including removing all the 'test network' wires).

It's got a custom dash with Autometer gauges and warning lights from Car Builder Solutions http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/category/Electrical/Warning_Lights/Large_Aluminium_Bezel,b.html and I've also added a modern 12-blade fuse box and 4-relay box. I've also got a new hazard switch (http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/product/Push_Pull_Hazard_Switch_HAZSW4). Custom LED indicators may be an option at some point too.

It's always bugged me about the dash not having a Left and Right indicator lamp on the dash (i.e. both arrows normally flash on the dash), so I'd like to wire something up that flashes the dash lights independently (i.e. indicate left, left dash arrow comes on and vice versa).

I'm starting to realise now it's not that straightforward as the VW electrics and switches are quite complex beasts. Question is, has anyone else attempted anything similar?

Separate the two wires on the dash and reconnect them to the individual feeds for the indicator off the relay use piggy back terminals. You only need to do the feed as the cluster is metal is already earthed, did this to mine but liked when they flashed in tandem so put back

Cheers.

Also found a useful article on TheSamba about it (http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2628141#2628141). Loads of contributions from Nigel A. Skeet on there relating to T2 electrics. Very comprehensive and worth a read.

Hmmm!

I see my reputation precedes me! :)

It's been a long time, since I wrote about this topic:
