Head light Switch/Dimmer

When I turn the head light switch on my van the dash lights go out. Is this what is supposed to happen, or are they supposed to dim?

Not important, but it'd be nice to know!

I believe they're supposed to dim when you rotate anti-clockwise.Fully on clockwise.Mine does this too,they only come on fully clockwise.

Having the same problem with mine, only picked it up on Saturday and could not get the dash lights on despite turning the knob, are these known to fail?

The switch is prone to failing.

I took mine apart and cleaned everything up, put it back in and dash lights dim like a treat. Easy to do 8) You can get new switches, saves your eyes on them long motorway crawls
